We’ve watched their families grow larger and their children grow up, but the time has come for us to begin saying goodbye to the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan. The Emmy Award-winning sitcom Modern Family returns for its 11th and final season Wednesday, Sept. 25. After 10 years, the ABC comedy is coming to an end…but on the bright side, we have plenty of new episodes to look forward to. Here is what we can expect from one of America’s favorite blended families this season.

When does Modern Family season 11 premiere?
The farewell begins on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.

Who is in the Modern Family cast for the final season?
The original stars of the show are returning for the final episodes: Ed O’Neill (Jay Pritchett), Julie Bowen (Claire Dunphy), Ty Burrell (Phil Dunphy), Sofia Vergara (Gloria Pritchett), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell Pritchett), Eric Stonestreet (Cameron Tucker) Sarah Hyland (Haley Dunphy), Nolan Gould (Luke Dunphy), Ariel Winter (Alex Dunphy), Rico Rodriguez (Manny Delgado), Aubrey Anderson-Emmons (Lily Tucker-Pritchett), Jeremy Maguire (Joe Pritchett) and Reid Ewing (Dylan). Fred Willard, who plays Phil’s father, will reprise his role for a “touching, heartfelt episode.” Modern Family co-creator Christopher Lloyd revealed to TV Guide that they would love to have former guest stars “who have worked their way into the fabric of the show” back, including Cam and Mitchell’s best friend Sal, played by Elizabeth Banks.

What happened and who died in Modern Family season 10?
As always with this family, a lot. But here are the highlights you might want a refresher on before getting into the new season.

Haley Dunphy (Sarah Hyland) Has Babies
Last season was a big one for Haley Dunphy. Claire and Phil’s oldest child got pregnant, and proposed to her boyfriend Dylan in a parking lot, “exactly how [he] always imagined it.” The pair wanted to elope, but decided they couldn’t go through with it, so instead ended up getting married by Internet-ordained Phil in a private, intimate wedding at home with their mothers, and Haley’s grandfather Frank and siblings Alex and Luke. Perhaps the most heartwarming moment of the season, and a nod to the show’s pilot, was when Cam and Mitchell introduced Haley’s twins to the whole family, the same way they did Lily, Lion King-style set to “The Circle of Life.”

DeDe Pritchett (Shelley Long) Dies
Season 10 saw the surprising death of one recurring character, Jay’s ex-wife and mother to Claire and Mitchell, DeDe Pritchett (Shelley Long). DeDe died peacefully in her sleep in the season’s Halloween episode, “Good Grief.”

Last season, Manny also proposed to his girlfriend Sherry in front of his whole family, however she said no and ran out of the room. Manny was still crying about it in the final seconds of the finale episode.

What will happen in the final season?
The Pritchetts
Jay and Gloria are raising their son Joe, while Manny, who is in his third year of college, is exploring the world on his own terms. Manny spent the summer at an elite dance and movement institute, but in the season premiere, directs Jay’s dog bed commercial in the hopes of winning his ex-girlfriend back. While he’s “still very frustrated by women,” he has a chance encounter with his first love a.k.a. the person he pursued in the series’ pilot, Lloyd revealed to TV Guide. Gloria on the other hand has gone back to school for real estate. The Colombian mom of two has become a legend in local real estate circles and forms a partnership with Phil Dunphy. While Gloria is killing it in the real estate game, Jay misses the closet world he once worked in. He’s “torn,” but enjoys spending time at home with his young son.
